Retail Sellers License Renewal Deadline Approaching – Don’t Delay!

As we near the end of the year, it’s time to ensure your compliance with state licensing requirements. If you hold a Motor Vehicle Retail Sellers License, this is your reminder that the renewal deadline is fast approaching.

Why Timely Renewal Matters:
Operating without a valid license is a violation of state law and could result in fines, penalties, or suspension of business activities. Renewing your license on time ensures uninterrupted compliance and safeguards your dealership’s ability to continue serving your customers. 

Licensing/Renewals
All new Motor Vehicle Retail Sellers in New Hampshire are done via the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS). If your company is currently licensed and changes of ownership or status occur the company must update the NMLS. Follow-up information may be requested. 

The steps for renewing your license, as outlined on the NMLS website include the following:

Step 1: Confirm you are able to access your NMLS account by logging in with your username and password. If you are having issues accessing your account, see NMLS Account Recovery for more information. 
 
Complete the steps below to prepare for NMLS Annual Renewal.

Step 2: Review all applicable state(s) renewal requirements.

  • These fees are collected when renewal/reinstatement request is submitted through NMLS.
  • The fees listed above are renewal fees to be paid to the state agency through NMLS.
  • Licensees will pay an additional annual processing fee, per license, to NMLS (Company-$100, Branch-$20, Individual-$30).
  • Additional fees will apply for states requiring a Criminal Background Check and/or Credit Report.

Other Information
If the agency approves a new license request between November 1st & December 31st, is the license valid through the next renewal period? Yes
If a renewal request is submitted within the renewal window but not approved by December 31st, is the licensee authorized to conduct business January 1st while awaiting a status of the renewal request? No
Comments You are not authorized to transact business with New Hampshire consumers until your renewal request is approved.

As of November 1st, licensees can log in to NMLS, click the Renewals Tab, and request renewal of their license(s). Alternatively, licensees also have the ability to identify licenses they do not wish to renew.

What happens after you’re done renewing?
Once the renewal request is completed, a "Renewal Requested" status displays in the Composite View tab of NMLS (see screenshot below).  
 
The licensee receives a confirmation email from NMLS. The state agency is notified, reviews your request, communicates any identified issues, and updates the status of your renewal request accordingly.
