IRS Reminder for Voiding and Cancelling Submissions in the ECO Portal
In an effort to provide clarity for dealers attempting to utilize the new functionality for processing returns and cancellations in the Energy Credits Online (ECO) portal, the IRS has requested that NADA reiterate that the “void” option should be used only when the vehicle was not placed in service AND you are still within 48 hours of the original submission.

A NHADA Diamond PARTNERThe “cancel” option should be used when a time of sale report should not have been issued (i.e. a lease scenario, or the vehicle was NOT placed in service), and you are outside of the 48-hour void period.
Since the new functionality became operational last month, the IRS has received numerous inquiries from dealers that mistakenly used the “cancel” option rather than the “void” option within the 48-hour period after submission of a time-of-sale report.
Dealers are also reminded to submit any cancellation requests that need to be processed for 2024 transactions before November 25, 2024.
To assist dealers with using the new functionality, the IRS issued a Clean Vehicle Return User Guide, and a set of FAQs. These materials are also available on NADA’s Clean Vehicle Incentives page. Please note you will need your NADA login credentials to access the page.
