Career Day 2018 Attracts Hundreds

On October 18, more than 600 students from 18 high school automotive technology programs arrived by bus at Manchester Community College (MCC) for a College and Career Day.
Manchester, Lakes Region, Nashua, and White Mountains Community Colleges were on-hand to talk to students and encourage them to enroll in NH community colleges to continue their education. All of these colleges have associate and certificate degree programs, including factory-sponsored auto tech, general auto tech, diesel heavy equipment, and powersports technology.

All students attended an industry forum with panelists Shawn Ivester, parts director at AutoServ of Tilton; Oliver Nobel, technician at New England Kenworth; Garrett Houle, student in Lake Region Community College’s GM ASEP program and doing his co-op at Quirk Chevrolet; Matt Garfield, service dispatcher at Bill Dube, Inc.; Matt Paras, instructor with the Ford Asset Program at Manchester Community College; and Alex Guilbeault, assistant operations manager at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

There were also demonstrations and activities. State Police demonstrated motor carrier safety inspections and the weighing of trucks, utilizing a truck loaned by New England Kenworth. The NASCAR stock car was popular. Pro-Cut demonstrated brake lathes, and Snap-On talked tools. Skills USA of NH and AWATO talked with students about careers in technical and skilled occupations. Electude demonstrated e-learning through gaming technology, Sullivan Tire / Lift Works’ simulator was popular.

Numerous NHADA members brought vehicles to display, came to help, and lent service managers and personnel to assist and talk with students.
We thank everyone who helped make this event a success!
